GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles to highlight a dominant 9-0 win by the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's tennis win over the Rhode Island College Anchormen in a Little East Conference match Saturday at the Gorham High School Courts.
With their eighth straight win, Southern Maine improves to 8-2 overall and remains undefeated in the Little East Conference at 3-0. The loss drops the Anchormen's record 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Little East.
Curley defeated Tim Holzinger (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) 6-0, 6-0 as the Huskies swept all six singles points. USM led from the start winning all three doubles points to grab the win. Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) led the Huskies' from the top of the doubles lineup with an 8-1 win over the RIC tandem of senior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, R.I./Cumberland) and freshman Troy Derrick (Rumford, Maine/East Providence).
Huskies' senior Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles action defeating junior Sean Raudonaitis (Westport, Mass.) at sixth singles.
Southern Maine hosts Castleton State on Sunday (12:00 p.m.) in a non-conference match. Rhode Island College hosts Western Connecticut State on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.
