Southern Maine Defeats Johnson State 9-0 and Endicott 9-0

GORHAM, Maine  - The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's tennis team earned a pair of 9-0 wins Sunday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex defeating the Johnson State College Badgers and the Endicott College Gulls in a non-conference doubleheader.

With the pair of wins Southern Maine extends its winning streak to three matches, improving its overall record to 3-3.  Johnson State dropped its third consecutive match to fall to 1-3.  Endicott falls to 1-4 with the loss.

In the opener, the Huskies' breezed through the doubles points en route to their 9-0 win over Johnson State.  Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) led USM from the top of the order with the first of three 8-0 wins in doubles action, defeating Badger senior Cole Hennessy (Colton, N.Y./Colton-Pierrepont) and junior Cory Chase (Miilton, Vt.).

In singles action, USM swept all six points winning first through fifth singles by the score of 6-0, 6-0.  Junior Romain Sauvageot (Cevnes, Rhone, France/Lycee OZANAM) earned his first collegiate victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matthew Miller at sixth singles.

Against Endicott, USM stormed to a 3-0 lead after the doubles points were played.  Adams and Gagne again led the way for the Huskies securing an 8-3 win at first doubles defeating the Gull tandem of senior Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) and sophomore Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell).

In singles action, USM remained dominant winning all six points.  Junior Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) fought back from a 7-6 (3) first set loss to win the next two sets 6-4, 10-8 at fifth singles downing Gull freshman Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass./Martha's Vineyard Regional) to keep the Huskies' score sheet perfect.

Southern Maine travels to UMass Boston on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for its first Little East Conference match of the season.
