WATERVILLE, Maine - Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) led the University of Southern Maine Huskies from the top of the doubles lineup en route to an 8-1 win over the Thomas College Terriers in a non-conference men's tennis match Wednesday afternoon in Waterville, Maine.
With the win, Southern Maine ups its record to 1-3 halting a three-match losing streak. Playing in its second match of the season, Thomas stands at 0-2.
Adams and Gagne cruised to an 8-2 win over sophomore Tyler Small (Surry, Maine/Ellsworth) and junior Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) at first doubles as USM swept the three available doubles points. Ahead 3-0, USM then went on to win five of six singles points to earn the victory. Adams defeated Small 6-1, 6-3 at first singles, while sophomore Max Wilkey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Island School (Hong Kong)) downed Morin 6-3, 6-1 at second singles. Sophomore Sebastien Taylor (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) earned his first win of the season defeating freshman Federico Trujilo (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Thomas junior Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine/Ellsworth) earned the lone point for the Terriers defeating USM junior Romain Sauvageot (Cevnes, Rhone, France/Lycee OZANAM) 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles.
Southern Maine hosts Johnson State and Endicott College on Sunday in its home-opening matches. USM will face Johnson State at 11:00 a.m. and Endicott at 4:00 p.m. Thomas hosts Johnson State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
