Colby Defeats Southern Maine 8-1

WATERVILLE, Maine  - Senior Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) earned a hard-won 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-7 win at sixth singles to score the Huskies lone point as the University of Southern Maine men's tennis team fell to the Colby College Mules 8-1 in a non-conference match.

The loss is the third straight for the Huskies who fall to 0-3.  Colby improves to 1-1 with the win.

Ross defeated Colby junior Zach Eslami (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) for the Huskies.  Colby jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action.  Freshmen Carl Reid (Mattapan, Mass./Belmont Hill) and Vlad Murad (Bacau, Romania/National College Ferdinand) led the Mules from the top of the lineup with an 8-3 win at first doubles.  Reid and Murad defeated the Husky tandem of sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine).

Southern Maine travels to Thomas College on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).  Colby College hosts Bates College on Monday (4:00 p.m.).
