Southern Maine Blanks Thomas 9-0

         WATERVILLE, Maine  –   Sophomore Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) and Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) each gutted out a tough win at first and second singles respectively to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 9-0 win over the Thomas College Terriers in a non-conference men's tennis match Wednesday afternoon in Waterville, Maine.

         Earning its first win of the season Southern Maine improves to 1-2 overall.  The loss is the second straight for the Terriers who fall to 0-2 on the season. 

         St. John battled Thomas sophomore Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) at the top singles spot earning a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win.  In second singles, Gagne earned a 7-6 (7-3) win in the third set to defeat Terrier freshman Tyler Small (Surry, Maine/Ellsworth) 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3) win as the Huskies swept all six singles points grabbing the 9-0 win.

         Southern Maine started the match grabbing all three doubles points.  St. John and junior Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) led the way from first doubles earning an 8-6 victory over Morin and freshman Joseph Greco (Greene, Maine/Saint Dominic). 

         Southern Maine returns to action on Sunday (10:00 a.m.) in its home-opener hosting Lyndon State College in a non-conference match.  Thomas hosts Lyndon State on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) in a non-conference tilt.
