Box Score PORTLAND, Maine -- Junior Mark White (Oakville, Ontario) and senior Nate Prince (West Gardiner, Maine) each scored five goals to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 15-4 victory over the Saint Joseph's College Monks in a non-conference men's lacrosse game Thursday at Memorial Field.
The win evened the Huskies' overall record at 1-1, and is the first victory for rookie head coach Sam Lane. The Monks drop to 1-2 overall.
White finished the game with five goals and two assists, and Prince had five goals and one assist. Junior Ryan Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) contributed four goals and an assist. Senior Zach Blauvelt (Lewiston, Maine) won 18 of 22 faceoffs and scooped up a single-game record 18 ground balls. Junior goalie Kyle Dussault (Lewiston, Maine) played the first three quarters and recorded six saves. Junior Ryan Hatch (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) played the final period and made three saves.
Sophomore Max Meserve (Kennebunk, Maine) led the Monks' offense with a goal and two assists. Junior goalie Christopher Driscoll (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) registered 10 saves.
White scored the first three goals of the game, followed by markers from freshman Dan St. Peter (Windham, Maine) and Prince, as the Huskies raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first 13 minutes.
Senior Jonathan Horgan (Hingham, Mass.) got the Monks on the board before the end of the first quarter, but that would be the only goal of the first half for the Monks. White and Foley (twice) would find the net in the second quarter as the Huskies pushed their lead to 8-1 by halftime.
Prince and Foley pushed the lead to 10-1 in the third quarter before SJC scored three straight man-up goals by seniors Paul Dolewa (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Benson Pasquarello (Kennebunk, Maine) and Meserve to cut the Huskies' lead to 10-4.
The Huskies scored five unanswered goals, including three by Prince, over the final 18 minutes to ice the victory.
Southern Maine is off until March 17 when it travels to Maine Maritime Academy. Saint Joseph's plays at FDU-Florham on Sunday (1:00 p.m.).
