Box Score 2 WENHAM, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team dropped two matches to the Roger Williams University Hawks and the Gordon College Fighting Scots in a non-conference tri-match at the Bennett Athletic Center on the campus of Gordon College.
Roger Williams swept the Huskies in the second match of the day 3-0 (25-14, 25-4, 25-10), and Gordon defeated Southern Maine 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14) in the day's final match. Roger Williams downed Gordon in the first match 3-0.
With the two losses, Southern Maine concludes its season with a 9-22 overall record, and an 0-7 conference mark. Gordon improves to 16-14 with the win over USM, and Roger Williams improves to 19-10 with the two wins.
Southern Maine freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) paced the Huskies offense against Roger Williams with three kills, and freshman libero Demi Ruder (Clifton, Colo./Central) finished with 14 digs. Sophomore setter Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) tallied 12 digs and five assists.
In the third match of the day, Gordon was led by a 13-kill, five-dig performance by junior outside hitter Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va./Fredericksburg Christian). Kranyak was followed by sophomore middle blocker Faith Gerdes (Wall Lake, Iowa/East Sac County), who finished with eight kills, sophomore outside hitter Shaylyn Roach (South Weymouth, Mass./Cardinal Spellman), who tallied four kills and one dig, and sophomore setter Joy Kimmel (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), who turned in game-high 30 assists and a team-high three aces. Senior libero Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn./Woodstock Academy) contributed with 17 digs.
The Huskies were led by junior outside hitter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk), who had six kills and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) and Abramson each finished with three kills, Abramson had two blocks, and Ruder had a team-high 17 digs. Hansen chipped in with 14 assists and 10 digs, and Mitchell also added 11 digs for the Huskies.
