GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over the Husson University Eagles as part of a home tri-match. Freshman
Lizzy Harbester (Plympton, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) led the Huskies with 10 kills in the win while junior
Kylee Eubanks-Hemme (Rosamond, Cali.) had nine. Freshman
Taylor Joyal (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) led the team in digs with 17 and also added six kills. Freshman
Reese Helisek (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) posted 21 assists in the win plus seven digs.

The Huskies also faced the Salve Regina University Seahawks in the first game of the event and dropped the match 3-0.

- The Seahawks pulled away from an 11-11 tie with an 8-1 run and won the second set 25-16.
- The Huskies led for most of the third set before the Seahawks stormed back to complete the sweep with a 25-20 win.

How It Happened:
- The Huskies used an 8-0 run to jump ahead early in the first set and won the set 25-14. The run featured two aces from Eubanks-Hemme, three kills by Harbester and two by Joyal.
- Husson cut a 10-5 Husky lead to 10-9 in the second set, but the Huskies were able to hold off the Eagles thanks in part to a 4-0 run that gave them breathing room. Helisek had two aces in the stretch. The Huskies won the set 25-14.
- The Eagles avoided a sweep by winning the third set 25-22.
- Southern Maine trailed 11-9 in the set number four before an 8-1 run gave them a five-point lead at 17-12. The first part of the run featured five straight points for the Huskies with three of them coming on aces off the hand of Eubanks-Hemme. Southern Maine took the set 25-17 to earn their first win of the season.
