Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. -- Rookie Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Lucy Glynn (Arlington, Mass.) each scored two goals as the Trinity College Bantams defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 6-2, in a non-conference women's ice hockey game Monday afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
The Bantams' second straight win gave the hosts a sweep of the teams two-game series, and improved their overall record to 3-6-0. The Huskies lost their third straight game to slide to 3-6-1 overall.
Robinson, who also earned an assist in the game, and Glynn scored goals in the first and second periods to help the Bantams build a 6-1 lead over the first 40 minutes. Glynn potted what proved to be the game-winning goal late in the first period as Trinity rolled to a 3-0 advantage. Senior Brigitte Cellino (Buffalo, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) netted the other Trinity goals. Junior Rebecca Rosen (Syosset, N.Y.) and senior Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) each picked up two assists.
Junior Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.) scored for the Huskies.
Cellino's power-play tally, set up by Rosen and junior Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), at 13:00 of the first period sparked a run of three goals by the Bantams before the period ended. Robinson scored her first collegiate goal at 15:31, and Glynn got the eventual game winner, unassisted, at 19:18.
Bubier cut the Huskies' deficit to 3-1 at 5:41 of the second period with a power-play marker. The goal was the first of the season for Bubier. Junior Alex Smith (Winthrop, Mass.) earned the lone assist.
The Bantams exploded for three goals within a span of 3:37 late in the period to take a commanding 6-1 advantage. Glynn, assisted by Sword and Cellino, scored her fourth of the season at 13:21. Kleidon followed just over a minute later with her third of the campaign. Robinson scored her second goal of the game at 16:58.
Banfield scored the only goal of the final period at 4:32 converting a pass from senior Jana Sacco (Niagara Falls, Ontario).
Sophomore goalie Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) picked up the win for Trinity making six saves in the first period. Classmate Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) came on to play the final two periods and recorded 15 stops. For USM, freshman Nikki Lauziere (Milton, Vt.) stopped 38 shots. Trinity would finish the game with a 44-23 advantage in shots on goal.
Southern Maine returns to action next week (January 10-11) when it hosts Division One independent Sacred Heart University for a two-game, non-conference series. Trinity hosts Williams College in a NESCAC encounter on Friday (7:00 p.m.).
