Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College men's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game and cruised past the University of Southern Maine, 19-5, in a non-conference game Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.
The victory gets Colby back to the .500 level with a 5-5 overall record. Southern Maine falls to 3-7 on the season.
Sophomore John Jennings (Danvers, Mass./St. John's Prep) led the Mules' offense assault with five goals, including four in the first half. Seniors Alex Boches (Beverly, Mass.) and John Moriarty (Winchester, Mass.) and junior Scott Margolis (New York, N.Y./Riverdale) all added two goals for Colby. Sophomore Greg McKillop (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) had a goal and four assists. Senior Craig Bunker (Topsfield, Mass./Mascomonet) was 13-for-19 on face off attempts and won nine groundballs for Colby.
Junior Nate Prince (West Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner Area) had two goals for the Huskies. Seniors Tim Bryant (Peterborough, N.H./ConVal) and Chris Gassman (Kennebunk, Maine) and junior Kyle Baker (Kennebunk, Maine) each had one goal.
Jennings found the net three times in the first quarter as the Mules dominated play to take an 8-0 lead. Margolis scored his two goals in the opening period. The Mules held a 17-2 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in ground balls in the quarter.
Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference play on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Colby entertains Amherst College for a NESCAC match on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
