GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Mike Sarrazin (Lewiston, Maine) and junior Matt Larson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Profile) combined for an 8-3 win at first doubles to set the tone as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Castleton State College Spartans, 9-0, in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Southern Maine improves to 4-3 overall. The loss snapped the Spartans' nine-match winning streak and dropped their record to 9-2 overall.
Larson and Sarrazin defeated the Spartan team of sophomore Kevin Eisenberg (Moulton-borough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) and junior Sam Levine (Camden, Maine) as the Huskies started the match sweeping all three doubles points.
In singles action, senior Zach Caron (North Conway, N.H./Kennett) downed Castleton senior Justin Garritt (Liberty, N.Y.) 7-6 (4), 6-3 at first singles. Larson picked up a hard-earned 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Eisenberg at second singles.
The Huskies host Thomas College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.). Castleton State travels to The Sage College (Troy, N.Y.) on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).
