Southern Maine Downs Colby-Sawyer 7-2

            GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Jon Sproul (Bristol, Maine/Lincoln Academy) and senior Mike Sarrazin (Lewiston, Maine) cruised to an 8-0 win in the second doubles flight to kick start the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 7-2 win over the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday night at the Costello Sports Complex.

            With the win, the Huskies even their record at 1-1.  The match was the spring season opener for Colby-Sawyer.

            Sproul and Sarrazin defeated the Colby-Sawyer tandem of sophomore Reeve Fidler (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) and junior Will Berry (Berlin, Vt./U-32) in doubles action, then went on to earn victories at third and fourth singles respectively to finish as two of four double winners for the Huskies. 

            Sproul defeated Fidler 6-2, 6-3 at third singles, while Sarrazin handily downed Berry 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles.  The Huskies finished the match winning two of three doubles points and five of six singles points.

            USM freshman Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) downed junior Eric Caples (Billerica, Mass.) 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles, and freshman Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles over sophomore Oscar Svensson (Norrkoping, Sweden/De Geer Gymnasium).  Ross and Dyke combined to defeat Caples and Svensson at third doubles, 8-1.

            Southern Maine hosts Johnson State College (10:00 a.m.) and Endicott College (2:00 p.m.) on Sunday.
