Box Score

BANGOR, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to defeat Husson University 11-3 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Boucher Field.

The win was the first of the season for the Huskies and snapped a two-game losing skid.  The Eagles slipped to 0-2 on the season.

Freshman Dylan Bousquet-Smith (Bowdoinham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) led the USM offense scoring four goals.  Junior Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) had his third straight three-goal game.  Sophomores Mark White (Oakville, Ontario) and Marc Stannard (Wilder, Vt./Hartford) each found the net twice.  White and junior Willie Joy (Portland, Maine/Deering) had two assists apiece.  Sophomore goalie Kyle Dussault (Lewiston, Maine) recorded six saves.

The Eagles received single goals from junior Ben Landry (Lewiston, Maine), rookie Ben Potter (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) and sophomore Mitch Heaps (Felton, Pa./Red Lion).  Junior goalie John Hooper (Wakefield, R.I./Prout School) made nine saves.

Hamilton scored twice in the opening 4:12, and White and Stannard added goals before the end of the first quarter as the Huskies opened up a 4-0 advantage.  After Heaps got the home side on the board, White, Stannard and Bousquet-Smith increased the margin to 7-1 by halftime.

Hamilton made it 8-1 in the third before Landry slipped a shot past Dussault.  Bousquet-Smith would score twice within a span of a minute to give USM a 10-2 lead after three quarters.  Bousquet-Smith and Potter traded goals in the final quarter to account for the final tally.

USM, paced by sophomore long-stick midfielder James Soules (Scarborough, Maine) and Joy, had a wide margin in ground balls (60-39) and faceoffs won (15 of 18).  Soules had a game-high nine ground balls while Joy won 10 of 12 faceoffs and collected five ground balls.

Southern Maine will host Maine Maritime Academy next Saturday (3:00 p.m.) at Memorial Field in Portland.  Husson travels to M.I.T. on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) for its next game.
