Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Sophomore Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) scored a pair of power-play goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights 5-1 in an ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women's East game Friday night at Cairns Arena.
The win was the second straight for the Huskies, and extended their unbeaten string to three games. The Huskies are 6-12-2 overall and 4-8-1 in league games. The Purple Knights had their two-game winning streak snapped to fall to 3-15-2 overall and 2-9-2 in the league.
Bubier staked the visitors to a 1-0 lead at 14:31 of the opening period potting a power-play goal off the left post. Sophomore Katie Davis (Woburn, Mass.) picked up the first of her two assists on the play.
The teams traded goals in the second period as Saint Michael's tied the game at 4:00 when Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass.) scored a power-play marker. Freshman Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.) restored the Huskies' lead at 13:24 with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
In the final period, the Huskies lit the lamp three times to pull away. Junior Katie Paradis scored at 1:08, tipping a shot taken by Davis past Saint Michael's sophomore goalie Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn.). Rookie Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) extended her goal-scoring streak to three games with her fifth goal of the season at 11:21, and Bubier closed the scoring with her second power-play goal, assisted by Paradis and junior Jana Sacco (Niagara Falls, Ontario), at 17:18.
Freshman goalie Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the night with 22 saves. She played particularly well late in the second period when the Huskies played the last 4:27 down at least one skater. Stevens registered 36 stops.
Southern Maine travels to Norwich University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.). Saint Michael's will entertain Plymouth State University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
