Box Score

GORHAM, Maine -- Senior goalie Cole Anderson (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) stopped 19 shots to earn his second shutout of the season at Amherst College defeated the University of Southern Maine, 3-0, in an ECAC Men's East-NESCAC interleague game Saturday at the USM Ice Arena.

The victory snapped a three-game losing skid for the Lord Jeffs, and improved their record to 8-6-4 overall and 6-4-3 in league games.  The Huskies, winless in their last nine games (0-7-2), fall to 4-11-3 overall and 2-10-1 in the league.

Freshman Andrew Kurlandski (Kirkwood, Mo.) and senior Matt Rhone (Dedham, Mass.) paced the Lord Jeff attack with a power-play goal and an assist apiece, and sophomore Mike Moher (Toronto, Ontario) picked up two assists.  Junior Mark Colp (Wareham, Mass.) had the other goal.

After a scoreless first period, Amherst grabbed a 1-0 at 5:56 of the second stanza when Rhone potted his power-play tally off assists from Moher and Kurlandski.  Amherst took advantage of the second of its three consecutive power plays over the opening eight minutes the period.  The Lord Jeffs would kill off two short-handed situations later in the period to protect their one-goal edge.

Colp gave the visitors some insurance with his goal at 13:28 of the third period.  Kurlandski clinched the win with his power-play tally, set up by Rhone and Moher, at 16:52.

The Lord Jeffs finished the game with a 29-19 advantage in shots on goal.  They converted 2 of 5 man-advantages while killing off all five Huskies power plays.  USM rookie goalie Braely Torris (Eckville, Alberta) registered 26 saves.

Southern Maine returns to action next weekend playing its final two home games of the regular season.  USM will host nationally-ranked Castleton State University on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Skidmore College on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).  Amherst returns home to host nationally-ranked Bowdoin College on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Colby College on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in its final regular season home games.
