GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman Brittany Soar (Boxborough, Mass.) scored from a bad angle with 7.2 seconds remaining in regulation to give the University of Southern Maine a 2-2 tie with Saint Michael's College in an ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women's East game Friday night at the USM Ice Arena.

The tie leaves Southern Maine with a 1-0-1 record overall and in league play.  Saint Michael's picked up its first point in the league standings and now stands at 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.

With the final seconds winding down and the goaltender out for the extra attacker, the Huskies pressed the attack searching for the equalizer.  Soar picked up a loose puck behind the goal, swung around to the other side and flipped the puck towards the front of the net where it hit a Saint Michael's player and deflected into the net.  The teams would skate through a scoreless five-minute overtime period to end in the tie.

After a scoreless first period, the visiting Purple Knights grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the second period.  Sophomore Allison Graf (Long Lake, Minn.) took a pass from senior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H.) and whipped a 30-foot shot through a screen past USM rookie goalie Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) for a power-play marker at 1:39.

USM tied the score less than three minutes later when sophomore Rachel Harvey (Fort McMurray, Alb.) scored from the right wing circle.  Junior Katie Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) picked up the lone assist.

Saint Michael's regained the lead at 4:41 of the third period as junior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J.) broke in along the left wing side and beat Lee.  Colitti grabbed the only assist.

Lee finished the game with 23 saves while Saint Michael's sophomore Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn.) was credited with 21 stops.

Southern Maine returns to the ice on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) hosting Norwich University.  Saint Michael's travels to Plymouth State University on Saturday (3:00 p.m.).
