GORHAM, Maine – Freshman SJ Welch (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team swept the weekly awards from the Little East Conference as the conference's Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. Welch placed second over the weekend at the Castleton Invitational with a two-round score of 143 (+3).
 
Welch fired a 67 (-3) on Saturday in the first round of the competition to help the Huskies set a program record for lowest single round with a team score of 277 (-3). His round included seven birdies. He then shot a 76 (+6) in a rainy second round on Sunday. The team's two-round total of 580 (+20) won them the event and set a new program record for lowest two-round score.
 
The Huskies are competing at the Maine Maritime Academy Mariner Invitational today at Augusta Country Club.
