GORHAM, Maine – Senior Julia Szewc (Hermon, Maine) has been chosen as the captain for the 2026 University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's cross country team. Szewc, a Health Sciences major, placed 26th at last season's Little East Conference Championship with a person-best time of 24:53.50 in the 6k.
 
Szewc has competed in 12 meets for the Huskies during her two-season cross country career. In addition to her performance at the conference championship meet, Szewc placed 119th at the NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships with a time of 25:15.6 in the 6k. She also ran a personal-best 5k time of 21:03.4 to place 211th at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Cross Country Championships last season. Academically, Szewc earned a spot on the LEC All-Academic Team for the Winter 2025-26 and Spring 2026 seasons.
 
Szewc and the Huskies will open the season on Friday, September 4 at the University of New England's Ron Ouellette Invitational in Biddeford, Maine.
