Colin McDonald (Gorham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Pitcher of the Week. McDonald is the second member of the Southern Maine squad to earn weekly honors from the MCBSA joining freshman
Hayden Strout (Charleston, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) who earned Rookie of the Week honors on March 17.
McDonald was dominant on the mound in a 15-1 (seven innings) Little East Conference win over UMass Dartmouth, striking out a season-high nine batters while allowing just five hits and no walks. McDonald retired 11 straight hitters from the fourth through the seven inning, including five by strikeout, and punctuated the outing by striking out the side in the fifth. McDonald's game one win over the Corsairs helped Southern Maine earn the LEC sweep on the weekend.
Southern Maine, 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Little East is on the road for its next two contests and will face Bowdoin College on Tuesday (5:15 pm) in Brunswick, Maine. The Huskies then travel to RV Endicott on Wednesday (3:30 pm). Southern Maine is slated for its home opener on Saturday, March 28 (12:00 pm) hosting Rhode Island College.
