GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Evan Baschnagel (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week. Earning the first LEC weekly honors of his career, Baschnagel made a strong debut as a Husky helping his team to a 4-1 start during its opening week.
Playing and starting in right field in each of Southern Maine's first five games, Baschnagel finished the week hitting .444 (8-for-18) with a double and two home runs from the Huskies' lead-off spot in the lineup. Drawing eight walks, Baschnagel had a .615 on-base percentage to compliment his .833 slugging percentage while scoring 11 runs for the Huskies early in the 2026 season. Collecting multiple hits in three of five games, Baschnagel was 2-for-4 with and RBI and a run scored in a 16-1 win over Lakeland University, and in a two-game sweep of Oneonta, he combined to hit 3-for-5 with six runs scored and two RBI. Southern Maine took the two game series from the Red Dragons 13-2 and 5-1, and in game two, Baschnagel was 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI roping his second home run of the season. Defensively, Baschnagel is perfect making nine putouts in as many chances.
Southern Maine is 5-1 after this morning's win over Ripon College, and will face No. 6 Salve Regina this afternoon. The Huskies close out their spring break trip in Florida with a doubleheader against Ramapo College (11 am) in their final games of the RussMatt Invitational.
