Colin McDonald (Gorham, Maine and
Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) each spun gems as the University of Southern Maine Huskies swept the Oneonta Dragons in a pair of seven-inning games 13-2 and 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida.
The Huskies combined for 14 hits in the opener, including six for extra bases.
Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) led the way with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate with five RBI and two doubles. Senior
Kyle Douin (Augusta , Maine/Cony) was 4-for-4 with with four runs scored.
In game two, junior
Evan Baschnagel (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI, including a home run to highlight a six-hit attack for the Huskies.

Game One Recap
- Southern Maine pounded out 14 hits led by four hits each from Douin and Keblinsky. Douin was 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored from the number two spot in the lineup, while Keblinsky went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Five of the Huskies' 14 hits were for extra bases.
- The Huskies led 4-0 after the top of the third. Keblinsky picked up the first of his five RBI in the game with a single, while sophomore Caleb Vacchiano (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) had a two-run triple. Oneonta came back in the home half of the inning, scoring two on a single from Cody Nelson, but from there the Huskies will roll offensively.
- In the top of the fourth, USM scored four runs on three hits, a hit-by-pitch, a walk and an Oneonta fielding error. With Douin collecting his third hit in as many at bats to load the bases for Southern Maine, Keblinsky had a two-run double in the inning, while Vacchiano had another RBI single. The Huskies' final run of the inning was scored on a fielding error for a 8-2 lead
- With McDonald in control on the mound, the Oneonta bats collected three hits over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The Huskies added another run in the fifth to lead 9-2 on a sacrifice fly to left field from junior Carter Higgins (Truro, Nova Scotia), and then put up another two runs in the sixth. Douin led off the sixth with a double and then crossed home plate on Keblinsky's second double of the game. Southern Maine led 11-2 before the sixth ended on an RBI single from senior Mike Anquillare (North Haven, Conn.).
- In the seventh, Southern Maine made it a 13-2 game. After Higgins was hit by a pitch, Baschnagel connected on a double to put runners on first and third setting the table for Keblinsky's fifth RBI of the game with a single before USM tallied its final run on a fielder's choice play. Sophomore Jackson Emery (Vernon, Vermont/Brattleboro Union) closed out the game in the the seventh with a pair of strikeouts before getting an infield fly to retire the side.

- Black pitched five scoreless innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out six to pace Southern Maine in game two.
- The Huskies scored twice in the first and second innings. Southern Maine took a 2-0 lead in the first as Drew Scialdone picked up an RBI single. Junior Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) made it back-to-back RBI singles for the Huskies as part of a three-hit bottom of the first.
- Baschnagel doubled the Huskies' advantage in the second lacing a two-run home run for a 4-0 advantage.
- IN the third and fourth, Black worked his way around baserunners to keep Oneonta off the scoreboard. Black had a pair of Ks in the third, and helped his own cause with a pick off at first in the fourth
- In the bottom of the fourth, Baschnagel made it 5-0 for the Huskies after drawing a lead-off walk and scoring a passed ball following some smart base running on a pair of ground outs.
- Oneonta broke up the shutout in the sixth off of reliever freshman Charlie Hudson (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) with a fielder's choice RBI fro Brendan Duffy, but Hudson ended any further threat with a strikeout. Keblinsky moved to pitcher in the top of the seventh for Southern Maine and closed the door on the game working around a single with two ground outs and a game-ending strikeout.

The Huskies have Sunday off. Southern Maine plays twice on Monday facing Ripon College at 10 am, and then No. 6 Salve Regina at 1:30 pm. On Tuesday, Southern Maine takes on Ramapo in a doubleheader beginning at 11 am.
