Southern Maine’s Maggie Jones Named Little East Conference Goaltender of the Year; Five Huskies Earn All-Conference Honors

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team has been named the first-ever Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year following an outstanding season. Jones, who also earned First Team All-LEC honors, was one of five Huskies to receive all-conference recognition as the LEC announced its full slate of postseason awards for its inaugural season of women's ice hockey on Tuesday afternoon.

Graduate student forward Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) and senior defenseman Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/Kimball Union Academy) earned Second Team All-LEC honors. Freshmen forwards Gracelyn Koch (Maple Grove, New Brunswick) and Charlotte Hughes (Mississauga, Ontario) each earned a spot on the All-Rookie team. The Huskies finished the season with a record of 11-15-1 and went 9-8-1 in conference play.

Jones posted a record of 8-8-1 with five shutouts in her first season with the Huskies. Her .944 save percentage was the best in the conference and her 1.54 goals against average ranked second. Jones made 30 or more saves in five games. All five of her shutouts came against conference opponents, including a 22-save performance in a 3-0 win over Plymouth State in the quarterfinals of the 2026 LEC Women's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament, presented by Townshend Hockey. Jones earned the LEC Goaltender of the Week award twice during the season.

Chagnon finished the season with a team-leading 13 goals and 23 points to cap off an incredible career ranked in the top five in program history in career goals and points. Her 59 goals rank second all-time and her 89 points rank fourth. Chagnon also set a program record for games played with 114 and extended her own program record for game-winning goals to 18. One of those game-winning goals came in 2-1 overtime win over Johnson & Wales on December 12 and earned her the LEC Player of the Week award. She was tied for fourth in the conference in goals and seventh in points this season.  Chagnon posted multiple points in six games this season with a season-high three on two goals and an assist in a 5-4 loss to Salve Regina on January 31.

Donahue blocked a team-leading 66 shots to rank second in the conference in the category while also leading all Southern Maine defensemen in points with 14 on five goals and nine assists. She recorded multiple points in two games with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Plymouth State on November 22 and two assists in a 5-3 win over UMass Boston on January 17. Donahue finished her two-season USM career with seven goals and 12 assists over 52 games after transferring from Nazareth University.

Koch led the team in assists with 11 and tied for second in points with 15 for an impressive rookie season. The freshman forward had multiple assists in three different games, including 4-0 and 4-1 wins over New England College on November 7 and January 10. She also scored twice in a 4-2 win over Plymouth State on February 14. Koch also led all forwards in blocked shots with 25 and played a key role in the Huskies' faceoff efforts.

Hughes' first season with the Huskies saw her score seven goals and dish out six assists. She notched her first career goal in a 4-0 win over New England College on November 7 then added another goal in a 2-1 win over VTSU Castleton on November 14. Her goal against Castleton earned her the LEC Rookie of the Week award and made her the first team member to earn a weekly conference award in the LEC era. Hughes had a pair of two-goal games this season. The first came in in a 4-1 win at home against New England College on January 10. She posted back-to-back multiple-point games in a road series at VTSU Castleton with two assists in a 5-0 win over January 23 and two goals in a 6-4 loss on January 24.
