GORHAM, Maine – Recently named the Little East Conference Player of the week, University o fSouthern Maine Huskies' women's basketball senior guard
Jaycie Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) has also been named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week.
Christopher is earning the weekly honor after averaging a double-double in a 2-0 week for the Huskies with wins at Maine Maritime and Keene State College. The Huskies' 6-0 guard averaged 23.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting an outstanding 51.9 percent from the field (14-for-27) and 94.4 percent from the free throw line (17-for-18).
Through 12 games this season, Christopher is averaging a team-leading 19.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, and is shooting 54.5 percent (78-for-143) from the field. Scoring in double-figures in 11 of her 12 games played, Christopher has surpassed the 20-point threshold five times and has a career-high 30 points in a 79-55 win over WestConn in Little East action. Christopher currently leads the Little East Conference in double-doubles with five.
Southern Maine (11-1, 4-0 Little East) is back on the road at VTSU-Castleton on Saturday, January 10 (1:00 pm), and then hosts UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, January 14 (2:00 pm).
