GORHAM, Maine – Senior
Jaycie Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 4.
Christopher averaged a double-double with 23.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Huskies. Shooting 51.9 percent from the field (14-for-27) and 94.4 percent from the free throw line (17-for-18), Christopher had her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 63-51 win at Maine Maritime Academy. In Little East Conference action, Christopher had a game-high 25 points, and added nine rebounds in a 71-47 win over Keene State on the road.
Through 11 games this season, Christopher is averaging a team-leading 19.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, and is shooting 52.7 percent (68-for-129) from the field. Scoring in double-figures in 10 of her 11 games played, Christopher has surpassed the 20-point threshold four times and has a career-high 30 points in a 79-55 win over WestConn in Little East action.
The Huskies (10-1, 3-0 Little East) remain in LEC action, and host Rhode Island College on Tuesday, January 6 (5:30 pm). Southern Maine is back on the road at VTSU-Castleton on Saturday, January 10 (1:00 pm).
