GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team remains in the "Also Receiving Votes" category of both the D3hoops.com and WBCA National Polls. The Huskies have been in the ARV category for the D3hoops.com poll six times this season (Nov. 23, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Jan. 4 and Jan. 13), and have appeared in the WBCA poll three times (Nov. 25, Jan. 6 and Jan. 13).
Following a pair of Little East Conference wins last week, the Huskies are 12-1 overall and 5-0 in Little East Conference action. Southern Maine's loss came at the hands of No.13/No. 10 Bates College on November 25 in overtime 70-66. Since the loss to the Bobcats, Southern Maine has won nine consecutive games.
Averaging 72.9 points per game and shooting 42.9 percent from the field as a team, the Huskies lead the Little East Conference in scoring defense and are holding their opponents to 50.9 points per game. Southern Maine is led by a trio of double-digit scorers: senior
Jaycie Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) and sophomores
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) and sophomore
Dakota Shipley (Bath, Maine/Brunswick).
Leading the LEC in double-doubles with five, Christopher is averaging 19.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 56.0 percent (84-for-150) from the field. Wiles, the 2025 LEC Rookie of the Year, is scoring at a 15.3 points per game clip, and is adding 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals per game while shooting 42.4 percent from three-point range. Shipley, the team's leader in blocked shots (16), is averaging 12.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocked shots per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field. Southern Maine (12-1, 5-0 Little East) is at home at Hill Gym for back-to-back conference games hosting UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, January 14 (2:00 pm) and Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, January 17 (1:00 pm). The Huskies are then on a three-game road trip, heading to Thomas College in non-conference action on Tuesday, January 20 (5:30 pm), and then Plymouth State and WestConn in Little East action on Wednesday, January 21 (5:30 pm) and Saturday, January 24 (1:00 pm), respectively.
