GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and senior
AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville) have been named captains for the 2025 University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's cross country season.
A Second Team All-Little East Conference performer in 2024, Catalano had a stellar debut season with the Huskies last year and was the top finisher for the team at every meet. She finished eighth at the Little East Conference Championships with a time of 19:22.1 in the 5k and ended the season by running a personal-best 6k time of 23:47.7 to place 50th at the NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships. Catalano also earned Third Team All-LEC honors in the 3000 meters at the 2025 LEC Indoor Championships with a third-place finish. A Health Sciences major with an Occupational Therapy Accelerated Degree Pathway, Catalano was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athlete for the 2024 cross country season.
Now in her second season as a team captain, Limberger has placed in the top 30 at the LEC Championships in two of the last three seasons. She has competed in 18 meets in her cross country career with a personal-best 6k time of 25:34.9, a mark that was set at the 2023 NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships where she placed 119th. Limberger has also had a very successful track & field career with three All-LEC honors to her name. She was part of a 4x800 relay team that won the conference title in the 2023 outdoor season and a team that placed second at the 2024 indoor championships. She also placed third in the 1000 meters at the 2024 indoor event to earn Third Team All-LEC honors. An Elementary Education major, Limberger is a two-time William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete.
The Huskies open the season on Saturday at the Ron Ouellette Invitational hosted by the University of New England.
