GORHAM, Maine – Fresh off of earning Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week honors sophomore
Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies baseball team has been selected as the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Pitcher of the Week. Black is the second Husky hurler to earn weekly honors from the MCBSA, joining teammate
Colin McDonald (Gorham, Maine) who earned the award on March 25.
In his lone appearance of the week, Black spun a gem leading Southern Maine to a 5-2 win over UMass Boston (RV) in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Carson threw seven innings of scoreless two-hit baseball in the victory, allowing just a pair of singles and two walks in a dominant performance. Keeping the Beacon bats off balance, Black picked up seven strikeouts in the outing, earning his second win of the season. From the fourth through the seventh inning, Black retired 11 consecutive UMass Boston hitters, including four by strikeout.
Through 23 appearances in his young career, Black has fired 64.0 innings, and has 66 strikeouts to his credit, including 22 so far in 2025. Black was a third team All-Little East Conference pitcher in 2024.
Southern Maine is at home on Wednesday, April 9 (4:00 pm) versus Colby. The Huskies return to Little East Conference action on Thursday (4:00 pm) hosting Plymouth State University before hitting the road for a doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday (12:00 pm). The Huskies are 4-2 in Little East Conference action.
