GORHAM, Maine – Two University of Southern Maine baseball legends, Sam Dexter '16 and Tucker White '17, have been named to the D3baseball.com 50^th Anniversary Golden Team. The 50^th Anniversary Golden Team consists of four teams of the best of the best from the first fifty years of DIII baseball. Dexter earned third team honors at shortstop, while White earned fourth team honors as an outfielder. Both student-athletes earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III National Player of the Year and the D3baseball.com Player of the Year awards during their careers with the Huskies with White winning the awards in 2013 and Dexter winning both awards in 2015.
 
Dexter and White were teammates on the 2013 Southern Maine team that won the Little East Conference Championship and set a program record for wins in a season with 43. The squad advanced all the way to the finals of the NCAA Division III World Series, finishing second. White batted .400 with 86 hits, including 14 doubles, nine triples, and 10 home runs while driving in 59 runs to help power the Huskies' lineup. He earned first team All-America honors from both the ABCA and D3baseball.com in addition to ECAC Division III New England, New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), and National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) Regional Player of the Year awards and the Little East Conference Player of the Year award. His 76 runs scored, 148 total bases, and 56 games played that season are all program records, and he led Division III in runs scored, triples, and total bases. Dexter, a freshman that season, earned NEIBA, ECAC, D3Baseball New England, and Little East Conference Rookie of the Year honors. He was also a first team All-LEC selection at shortstop. Like White, Dexter also set program records during Southern Maine's championship run with 23 doubles and 194 assists.
 
White earned the first All-America honors of his career with second team honors from both the ABCA and D3baseball.com as a junior in 2012. That season saw him lead the nation in triples with 10 while earning first team All-LEC honors and ECAC Division III, NEIBA, and D3baseball.com All-Region honors. In his career, White hit .359 (251-for-700) with 171 RBI, 43 doubles, 27 triples and 22 home runs. His 27 triples are the most in program history and rank third in Division III history. He was named to the D3baseball.com 2010s All-Decade Team as a third team selection. White completed his degree in Exercise Science (Health Fitness) in 2017. He was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Little East Conference Hall of Fame in 2023.
 
Dexter, a two-time All-American and a first team All-Decade selection by D3baseball.com, holds the program records for career hits (312), singles (203), doubles (81), extra-base hits (109), total bases (408), assists (672), at-bats (806), and games played (194). He earned All-America honors for the first time as a junior in 2015 when he hit .441 with 82 hits in 186 at-bats with 57 runs scored, 44 RBI, 21 doubles, 11 stolen bases, and a .948 fielding percentage on his way to earning the ABCA and D3baseball.com Division III National Player of the Year awards. He also earned LEC, ECAC, D3baseball.com New England, and NEIBA Player of the Year honors. Dexter repeated as a first team All-American as a senior in 2016 and also earned All-Region honors from D3baseball.com and NEIBA. He also earned first team All-ECAC and All-LEC honors and was the LEC and D3baseball.com New England Region Player of the Year. He is one of just 11 players in NCAA Division III history to record 300 or more career hits. His 81 career doubles are tied for third in Division III history.
 
Dexter was drafted by Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox in 2016 and is still playing professionally today. He currently plays for the Kane County Cougars of the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official Partner League of Major League Baseball (MLB). He earned his bachelor's degree in History from Southern Maine in 2016, and then went on to earn his Master's degree in Leadership Studies in 2022. Dexter was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2022 and the Little East Conference Hall of Fame in 2024.
 
To select members of the team, D3baseball.com looked at the All-American, Gold Gloves and Players of the Year awards won in 2026 and before, along with those players who were drafted. Point totals were applied and a cut line was determined so that there were approximately three candidates for each of the positions on the four teams that were compiled. Voting among media members determined which players were added to the Golden D3baseball.com Team.
