Southern Maine’s Douin Named 2025-26 LEC Male Student-Athlete of the Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced recent University of Southern Maine graduate Kyle Douin has been named its 2025-26 Male Student Athlete of the Year. As such, he will be nominated for the Division III Commissioner's Association (D3CA) Student-Athlete of the Year Award.

Douin is the fifth University of Southern Maine student-athletes to earn LEC Student-Athlete of the Year, joining Sophia Slovenski (track & field) 2023; Mary Caron (softball) 2017; Stacy Leblanc (soccer) 2006; Tina West (softball) 2002; and Heather Gilmour (field hockey) 1998.

The LEC Student Athlete of the Year Award is presented in recognition of a student-athlete's athletic and academic prowess, leadership and community service. The student-athlete must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility in their primary sport.

Douin had an outstanding 2026 campaign for USM, earning First Team All-America honors from D3baseball.com and Second Team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association at first base. He posted a career-best .443 going 81-for-183 at the plate with 70 runs scored and a team-leading 72 RBI, collecting 16 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. Douin also had a .549 on-base percentage and a .787 slugging percentage for a team-best OPS of 1.336.

His on-field performance helped propel the Huskies to the 2026 LEC regular season and tournament championships. USM would then host and advance to the final round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Regional Championship.

The Augusta, Maine native was a two-time LEC Player of the Year selection and four-time First Team All-LEC selection for the Huskies. He was additionally named the ABCA and D3baseball.com 2026 Region II Player of the Year, and totaled five First Team All-Region selections from the two organizations from 2004-26.

Douin's combined efforts on the field and in the classroom made him a three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, garnering First Team honors in 2024 and 2026 and Second Team honors in 2025. He completed his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Southern Maine while posting a 3.69 cumulative grade point average, and registered a 4.00 GPA while pursuing his master's in leadership studies from USM.

As part of his personal statement, Douin said "Balancing engineering, graduate classes, and college baseball wasn't easy. There were plenty of long days, early mornings, and late nights. Those experiences taught me discipline, time management, and how to keep moving forward even when things got difficult. They also reinforced my belief that success comes from consistently showing up and putting in the work."

Finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in home runs (38) and RBI (210), Douin completed his time as a Husky (2023-2026) hitting .374 with 246 hits, including 52 doubles, 13 triples and 38 home runs with a .666 slugging percentage.  Defensively, Douin had 823 putouts and 136 assists in his career for a .976 fielding percentage.
