Southern Maine Men’s Track & Field Places Second at Little East Conference Outdoor Championships; Shain and Carrolton Break Program Records

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine men's track & field program placed second at the Little East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The Huskies finished with a total of 133 points, just 4.5 behind conference champion UMass Dartmouth. The Huskies won four events on the day led by two event titles from graduate student Ethan Shain (Sanford, Maine). Shain set new program records in the 100-meter dash at 10.48 seconds and in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.41 seconds. He is now tied for 16th in the country in the 100-meter dash and 34th in the 200-meter dash. This is his third 100-meter conference title and second title for the 200-meter dash.
 
Junior Maddox Cahill (Sunapee, N.H.) and fifth-year senior Ben Drummey (Biddeford, Maine) also won event titles. Cahill repeated as conference champion in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.27 seconds. Drummey earned his third LEC outdoor pole vault title with a mark of 4.93m and is now tied for 14th nationally in the event.
 
Several Huskies also placed second on the day led by graduate student William Carrolton (Bath, Maine/Morse). Carrrolton set a new program record in the shot put with a mark of 15.76m and placed second in the discus with a season-best mark of 50.46m. His discus mark is the third best throw in program history. He now ranks 18th in NCAA Division III this season in the discus and 35th in the shot put.
 
Additional field event runner ups include sophomore Dru Hyndman (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little), senior Jacob Jackson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and junior Michael D'Amico (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee). Hyndman placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.61m. Jackson placed second in the high jump at 1.93m D'Amico finished second in the pole vault at 4.25m.
 
 
Track Event Highlights:
  • Freshman Marcus Tillery (Windham, Maine) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time 11.02 seconds. His prelim time of 10.94 seconds makes him the fifth fastest runner in program history. He also placed 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.52 seconds.
  • Fifth-year senior Jack Pecoraro (Westbrook, Maine) placed fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:11.32.
  • Senior Jordan Duplessie (Caribou, Maine) finished fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:41.37.
  • The 4x100 team of Tillery, Cahill, freshman Logan Berube (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) and junior DeAnthony Evans (Westbrook, Maine) placed fourth with a time of 42.33 seconds.
  • The 4x800 team of sophomore Aidan Pecoraro (Westbrook, Maine), freshman Preston Gerry (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester), Jack Pecoraro and sophomore Cyrus Evans (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) finished fourth with a time of 8:12.51.
  • D'Amico ran a personal best time of 15.73 seconds in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the finals at 15.81 seconds. His prelim time puts him seventh on the program's leaderboard.
  • Junior Christian Burke (York, Maine) ran a personal-best time of 15.93 seconds in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles to place fifth but did not compete in the finals. He now ranks eighth in program history.
  • Junior Michael Cyr (Caribou, Maine) placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:17.46, a new personal best.
  • Gerry and Aidan Pecoraro placed fifth and sixth in the 800 meters. Gerry's time was 1:59.12 and Pecoraro's time was 2:00.12.
  • Cyrus Evans placed sixth in the 400 meters with a personal best time 50.73 seconds.
  • Senior Anthony O'Donnell (Portland, Maine/Deering) placed seventh in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:56.92.
  • DeAnthony Evans placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds in the finals after running a personal-best time of 11.07 seconds in the prelims. His prelim time is tied for 10th in program history.
  • The 4x400 team of Cahill, senior Albert Matrille (North Waterboro, Maine/Alvirne), junior Jon Dalessandro (Westbrook, Maine) and Shain placed sixth with a time of 3:28.53.
 
Field Event Highlights:
  • Dalessandro placed third in the pole vault at 3.95m.
  • Jackson placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.25m and was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 43.38m.
  • Berube placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 46.53m.
  • Senior Treshaun Brown (Kittery, Maine) placed fifth in the long jump at 6.53m and was fifth in the triple jump as well with a mark of 13.14m
  • Freshman Trevor Amos (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 36.93m and was 10th in the shot put with a mark of 11.85m.
  • Senior Kaleb Frey (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) placed eighth in the hammer with a personal best throw of 41.50m. Freshman Tim Bowler (Danvers, Mass.) finished ninth with a toss of 40.53m.
  • Senior Konnor Simpson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) set a personal best in the discus at 33.47m to place 11th.
