WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior
Jacob Jackson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) placed first in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m on Friday afternoon at the Maine State Pine Tree Classic. Jackson passed on the first three heights before clearing 1.80m and 1.85m on his first try at each height. The first day of the Pine Tree Classic also included the hammer throw, javelin and the first five events of the decathlon. The University of Southern Maine ended day one on top of the team leaderboard with 29 points.

Juniors
Christian Burke (York, Maine) and
Michael D'Amico (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee) ended the first day of the decathlon in the top two spots. Burke finished day one with 3,228 points and D'Amico's score was 3,016 points. Burke placed first in the 100-meter dash (11.24 seconds) and shot put (11.56m) and tied with D'Amico for first in the high jump at 1.81m. D'Amico won the long jump (5.92m) and 400 meters (53.82 seconds) while Burke placed second in each event.

Freshman
Logan Berube (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) placed second in the javelin with a personal-best mark of 48.70m to move into sixth in program history. Freshman
Matt Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) and senior
Scott Kaufman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) placed sixth and ninth in the event with throws of 40.28m and 36.40m.

Freshman
Tim Bowler (Danvers, Mass.) and
Trevor Amos (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) also scored points for the Huskies in the hammer. Bowler placed fourth with a personal-best distance of 42.03m while Amos also set a personal best with a throw of 40.89m to place sixth. They entered the meet ranked fourth and sixth on the program top 10 performers list in the event and maintained those spots with their personal bests. Kaufman placed ninth with a throw of 37.37m.

The meet continues tomorrow morning with the decathlon at 9:00 am followed by the rest of the events starting at 10:00 am.
