Barnes and Hammith Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

GORHAM, Maine – Senior Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) and freshman Khalysa Hammith (Windham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's track & field team have earned All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). All-Region honors are awarded to the top five performers in each men's and women's track and field event and the members of the top three relay teams in each NCAA Division III region from the season-ending descending order list of performances. Barnes earned All-Region in the shot put and weight throw while Hammith earned the honor for the long jump
 
Barnes set a program record in the shot put with a throw of 13.14m at the Maine State Meet. She won the event and placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 15.65 and was named the Most Valuable Field Performer. The Little East Conference Championship Meet saw her put on a similar performance with another first place finish in the shot put and runner-up finish the discus She picked up additional hardware as the LEC Field Athlete of the Year for her performance. Barnes concluded the championship season by placing third in the shot put at the NCAA Division III New England Championships and second at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships. Her shot put mark ranked third in the East region and her weight throw mark was fifth. She has now earned All-Region honors in the indoor shot put three times and this is her first time being honored for the weight throw.
 
Hammith had the top mark in the region in the long jump with a program record leap of 5.79m. Her mark was set at the LEC Championships and earned her first place in the event. a mark of 5.79m. Like Barnes, Hammith earned a major award from the conference as the Field Rookie of the Year. Finishing with the 11th best mark in the NCAA Division III, Hammith will be competing at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Rochester, N.Y.
