2025 NCAA Northeast Wrestling Regional Championship: Colby Frost & Jake Craig Advance to Championship Semifinals; Kyle Moore Remains in Hunt

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.    -  Senior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) each earned a spot in the championship semifinal of their respective weight classes to highlight a competitive opening day for the University of Southern Maine Huskies at the 2025 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Wesleyan University's Bacon Field House in Middletown Connecticut.  Sophomore Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) remains alive in the wrestle-back.

Both ranked nationally and in-region to start the tournament, both Frost (149) and Craig (125) finished day one on the tournament at 2-0 to advance to the championship semifinals.  The top three place winners in each weight bracket will punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championship tournament in Providence, Rhode. Island (March 14-15) at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.  Moore (141) can still finish third, remaining alive and bouncing back from a quarterfinal loss in the semifinal bracket. Moore is 2-1 so far in the tourney.  All three Huskies will earn All-Region honors after today's strong efforts.

A two-time NCAA Championship Qualifier and a 2023 All-American (Fourth Place), Craig entered the regional championship ranked third in the New England region at 133 lbs, and 12th nationally. Dropping down to the 125 lb weight class for the regionals, Craig previously qualified for nationals as a freshman in 2023 at 125, earning his All-American honor. Craig opened his tournament with a resounding 16-0 (4:09) win by technical fall over Western New England's Beniamino CiCocco. Craig advanced to the championship semifinal with another win by technical fall defeating Wesleyan's Chris Hong 18-1 (6:15). Hong entered the tournament ranked fifth in region at 125 lbs. Craig will face Castleton's Gavin Bradley tomorrow in the championship semifinal.  Bradley earned and 11-1 major decision win in his first bout of the day, defeating Williams Christopher Colon, and then moved to the semifinal with a 0:42 win by fall over Norwich's Jabari Pinkney. Craig and Bradley faced each other in the 2024 regional semifinal with Bradley taking a 7-4 decision.

A three-time All-Region selection, two-time NCAA Qualifier, and 2024 All-American (Sixth Place), Frost is the top-ranked wrestler in the region and in the nation at 149 pounds.  Entering the tournament undefeated at 31-0, Frost picked up two more wins to improve to 33-0 on the season. Frost opened the tournament with a 4:33 win by fall over WPI's Mason Basara, and then defeated Springfield's Luke Temple by major decision 14-3.  Temple entered the tourney ranked eighth in the region. Advancing the championship semifinal, Frost will face Castleton's Elijah Cyr. Cyr is ranked fourth in the region.  Cyr earned his spot with an opening round win by technical fall, and a 10-2 decision over William's Caleb Seyfried in the quarterfinals. Frost faced Cyr earlier this season and earned a 16-6 major decision victory.

Opening with an 11-2 major decision win over Sebastian Armstrong of Rhode Island College, Moore, ranked fifth in the region, took a 13-5 major decision loss in the quarterfinal round against Wesleyan's Hayden Myers – the fourth ranked wrestler in the region.  Facing elimination in the wrestle-back, Moore battled his way to a 3-1 win over Bridgewater State's Malcolm Crispin to stay alive. Moore and Crispin faced each other earlier this season with Crispin taking a 7-1 decision over Moore. Moore continues on in the consolation quarterfinals to start tomorrow's action and will take on Williams' Tylor Stubbs. Moore needs three more wins to place third and qualify.
