SPRINGFIELD, Mass.     –  Senior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle), sophomore Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) and freshman Jason Canavan-Dwyer (Keene, N.H.) each finished the day 2-0 as the University of Southern Maine Huskies picked up a pair of wins at the Western New England Quad meet.  Southern Maine defeated Trinity (Conn.) 31-12 to start the day, and then defeated Plymouth State 43-8. The Huskies fell in their final match of the day to Western New England 33-19.
 
On the Mat:

• Against Trinity, Southern Maine claimed victory in six of 10 bouts. After falling behind 3-0 to start at 157 lbs, sophomore Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) pinned John Lagana to give the Huskies the lead for good in the match.  Canavan-Dwyer, and Frost also earned wins by fall at 285 and 149 pounds respectively, while Moore had a solid 6-3 win by decision over Trinity's Daniel Echeverria.
• Facing a depleted Plymouth State lineup, Southern Maine senior Liam Knight (Danbury, Conn.) and freshman Silas Runez (Keene, NH/Keene) each had a win by fall. Knight dropped PSU's Cameron Monahan at 141 lbs, while Runez earned the pin at 149 pounds overtaking the Panthers' John Allmers.
• The Huskies fell being the Golden Bears 29-0 after the first five individual bouts.  Canavan-Dwyer got the Huskies on the board at 285 defeating WNEU's Spencer Dickinson 5-0. After another loss at 125 lbs for Southern Maine, the Huskies swept the 133, 141 and 149 bouts – all with bonus points. Junior Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) pinned WNEU's Beniamino DiCocco in 1:43.  Both Moore and Frost followed with back-to-back wins by technical fall.  Moore earned an 18-3 (3:40) win over Ayden Chang, while Frost overpowered Matthew Rodriguez 22-6 (4:32).

 
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine returns home for senior night on Friday, February 14 (6:00 pm) against New England College. The Huskies will be celebrating Senior Day.
