GORHAM, Maine – Freshmen
Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine),
Florence Guimont (Boisbriand, Quebec/Laval Senior) and senior
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team have each earned weekly citations from the Little East Conference. Reitchel was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Morin was named the Rookie of the Week. Guimont earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Reitchel had a point in each of the Huskies' three games during a 1-1-1 week. She assisted on one of the Huskies' five goals in a shutout win over UMaine Farmington Wednesday, and then scored the first of two goals in USM's 2-2 draw with WestConn Saturday. Against No. 12 Middlebury Sunday, Reitchel earned her 19th career assist pressing the Middlebury backs, earning the turnover, and feeding teammate
Lexi Morin for the goal in the 36th minute of a 2-1 setback.
Earning a start and seeing action in two at center back, the Huskies' rookie, Guimont, helped Southern Maine to a 5-0 win over UMaine Farmington, scoring her first intercollegiate goal, smartly making a run into the box and helping USM hold the Beavers to just one shot in the contest Wednesday. Against No. 12 Middlebury on Sunday, Guimont earned the start (second of her career), playing 56 minutes, and helping limit the Panther offense.
Morin notched at least one point in each of the Huskies' three contests during a 1-1-1 week, finishing with two goals and two assists for six points. She assisted on the game-winning goal against UMaine Farmington, and against WestConn assisted on the Huskies' first goal before scoring the equalizer in the 85th minute of the 2-2 draw. Against No. 12 Middlebury, Morin scored in the 36th minute as she and
Riley Reitchel worked a press to turn the ball over from the Panthers in the offensive third.
Southern Maine is on the road for three more games at Bates (October 15), at VTSU-Castleton (October 17) and at UMass Boston (October 22). The Huskies return home on Saturday, October 25 (3:00 pm) hosting Eastern Connecticut State in an LEC contest.
