No. 14 Williams Defeats Southern Maine 4-1

GORHAM, Maine  –  Lucy Carrel recorded a hat trick and the No. 14 Williams College Ephs defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 4-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Huskies' sophomore Natalie Flageolle (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) put the Huskies on the board in the 85th minute converting a penalty kick.  Flageolle's goal is the first for the Huskies against Williams in their three meetings.

The Records:
No. 13 Williams (6-1-1)
Southern Maine (4-7-1)

Today's game marked third meeting between Southern Maine and Williams College.  Williams leads the series 1-0-1. Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in 2024 at Wiliams, and in 2022 the Huskies faced Williams for the first time in the NCAA tournament, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Ephs.

How It Happened:
  • Carrel struck for the first of her three goals in the game in the 12th minute, taking a one-time volley out of the air on a corner kick for the 1-0 lead.
  • Olivia Bevilacqua made it 2-0 in the 35th tapping in an assist from Brianna Wright before Carrel made it 3-0 in the 47th collecting her own rebound and knocking the ball home.
  • Carrel completed the hat trick with a far-post run to score on a nicely placed cross from Isabel Konijnenberg from the right side.
  • The Huskies generated more of their offense in the second half, and were able to draw the penalty after some strong build up play from the back.  A dangerous ball sent into the box from senior Britney Hill (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) led to a Williams' handball and the penalty.  Flageolle's goal is her second of the season.
