REDDING, Conn. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team won their second consecutive Little East Conference title on Friday with a two-round score of 671 (+103) to claim the title by seven strokes over Eastern Connecticut State University. Freshman
Keenan Buteau (Scarborough, Maine), who entered the round tied for first, finished third overall with a score of 164 (+22) to win the conference's Rookie of the Year award as the top performing freshman. He also earned First Team All-Little East Conference honors by placing in the top five.
Sophomores
Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and
Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) also finished in the top 10 to earn All-LEC honors. Fournier placed seventh with a 168 (+26) after shooting an 87 (+16) on day two. Grant tied for the second-best round of the day with a 79 (+8) to move into a tie for eighth. Both athletes have earned Second team All-LEC honors by finishing sixth through 10th.
Sophomore
Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) tied for 12th after shooting an 84 (+13) to bring his two-round total to 172 (+30). Junior
Finn Sharpe (Durham, Maine/Freeport) finished 17th with a 177 (+35) after shooting an 88 yesterday and an 89 in today's round.
Buteau's four birdies over the two rounds tied for the most in the field. Grant totaled three birdies while Sharpe had two and Poirier and Fournier each had one. Grant led the team in pars with 14 and tied for fourth overall in the category.
The Huskies have earned the program's third NCAA Championship bid and will compete at the Division III National Championship on May 12-15, 2026 at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Oglethorpe University and Greater Orlando Sports Commission is serving as the hosts of the championship.
