Huskies Earn Big Wins Over Plymouth State and Rhode Island College

Craig & Frost Go 3-0 in Strong Day of Competition

PLYMOUTH, NH   –  Senior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) and junior Jake Craig each went 3-0 to highlight a strong day of competition for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team at the Plymouth State University Quad Meet Saturday afternoon. 
 
Southern Maine earned a 27-16 win over Rhode Island College, and dominated Plymouth State 43-12. The Huskies dropped a 40-8 decision to nationally-ranked Vermont State University Castleton. 
 
 
On the Mat:
  • Frost remains undefeated on the season with a 3-0 mark on the day.  Opening with a 2:23 win by fall over Plymouth State's Damari Goldsmith-Greene, Frost had a dominant technical fall victory over RIC's Michael Pestana 21-5 (6:30).  The Huskies' senior closed out the day scoring four of the Huskies' eight points against VTSU-Castleton with a major decision win over Elijah Cyr 11-1.  Cyr entered the bout ranked fifth in the region at 149 lbs by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA). Ranked second nationally, Frost is number one in the region.
  • Craig was dominant in his matches at 133 lbs. Opening with a lightning quick 43 second win by fall over Plymouth's Cam Monahan, Craig followed that up with a 17-2 (4:46) win by technical fall over Rhode Island College's Kwesi Amoa.  Against VTSU-Castleton, Craig earned a strong 12-2 major decision over Kaya Bogle.
  • Sophomore Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) was 2-1 on the day at 141 pounds including a 4:40 pin over PSU's John Allmers.
  • Senior Kaleb Pool (Tucson, Arizona) went 2-0 earning wins over Plymouth State and Rhode Island College. Pool had a 25-9 technical fall victory over Dillon Carter of RIC in 5:00.
  • Freshman Jason Canavan-Dwyer (Keene, N.H.) had an impressive win against Rhode Island College's Michael Alfonso.  Unranked in region by the NWCA, Canavan-Dwyer worked his way to a 4-1 deicision over Alfonso – who entered the day ranked sixth in the region.

Southern Maine is back in action on Saturday, January 25 (10:00 am) at the Wildcat Open hosted by Johnson & Wales, and then will take part in the NEWA Duals on Sunday (10:00 am) also hosted by JWU. .
