Kyle Douin Named 2024 Division III Baseball Academic All American

Douin is the 16th Individual Academic All-American in Southern Maine History

GORHAM, Maine  –  Adding another award to an ever-growing list, sophomore Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies baseball team has been named to the 2024 Division III Academic All-America ® Baseball Third Team, as selected by members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC).  After a career-best season, Douin is adding the accolade to an already impressive 2024 season that included Little East Conference Player of the Year honors.

Douin's selection to the Academic All-America team is the 16th citation in University of Southern Maine history, and marks the third selection to the  Academic All-American team from the Huskies' baseball program, joining senior Cam Seymour  (Second Team, 2021) and Chris Bernard '14 (Second Team, 2014).

"Kyle is a tremendous student and a tremendous student-athlete," said first-year head coach Scott Heath.  "It is great to see Kyle's excellence in the classroom and in sport be acknowledged. His ability to maintain and excel in his athletic and academic pursuits is impressive, and illustrates his commitment to achieving his potential in all aspects of his intercollegiate career."

Named to the CSC Academic All-District team earlier this spring, Douin was advanced to the Academic All-America ballot.  Members of College Sports Communicators vote for student-athletes across NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA who have excelled academically and athletically. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling.

The 2024 Little East Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore, Douin's season numbers are outstanding.  Leading the Huskies in batting average (.371), hits (62), runs scored (42), total bases (123), slugging percentage (.737), on-base percentage (.439), doubles (16), home runs (13) and RBI (67), Douin was also named first team All-Little East Conference, first team Maine College Baseball & Softball Association All-State, first team D3baseball.com All-Region, and first team American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) All-Region teams.  The first Husky to be named LEC Player of the Year since former All-American Jake Dexter in 2018, Douin is the first Southern Maine baseball player to earn first team All-Region honors since three Huskies were chosen in 2021 (Bryce Afthim, Cam Seymour and Ben Lambert).

Douin's outstanding offensive numbers put him among some of the best in the nation in NCAA Division III, as the Huskies sophomore was third in RBI, 16th in total bases (123), 21st in home runs, and 43rd in slugging percentage. Building off of strong rookie season, Douin is a two-time All-LEC performer, earning third team honors in 2023.

In two seasons, Douin has a career .335 batting average with 110 hits in 328 at bats.  Driving in 98 runs in 78 games played, Douin has 25 doubles, seven triples and 18 home runs to his credit. An infielder defensively, playing both third and first base, Douin has 241 putouts, and 95 assists for a career .925 fielding percentage.

A 2024 CSC Academic All-District recipient and William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete, Douin was also named the 2024 Little East Conference Spring All-Academic Team.  He is pursuing his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
