Brissette, Douin, Poole, Seymour, and Sullivan Earn 2024 Academic All-District Honors

GORHAM, Maine  –  Five members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team have earned 2023-2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.  Earning the academic distinction were senior Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), graduate student Owen Sullivan (Biddeford, Maine), junior Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine), and sophomore Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls).

To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. They also must have competed in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of their institution's games. For softball pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.  The 2023-24 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Douin advanced to the 2024 Academic All-American ballot.

Appearing in 14 games with eight starts in 2024, Sullivan is a two-year member of the Huskies' team. Working 48.1 innings this season, Sullivan finished second on the Southern Maine pitching staff in strike outs with 57.  In 5.2 innings against Rhode Island College, Sullivan struck out nine hitters to earn the win. During the season, Sullivan had eight appearances with at least five strikeouts.   In two seasons with USM, Sullivan had a 5.37 earned run average, firing 70.1 innings.  He had 84 career strikeouts. Sullivan is earning his  Master's Degree  in Leadership Studies.

Named third team All-Little East Conference as the Huskies' catcher, Seymour hit .259 (37-for-143) with 10 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 37 RBI while leading the team in walks (29) and scoring 33 runs. A power hitter throughout his career, Seymour broke the program record for career home runs in a doubleheader sweep over LEC opponent Rhode Island College, going 5-for-8 with nine RBI. A four-time All-LEC selection, Seymour finished his Huskies' career with a program-best 36 home runs, and earned ABCA All-America (second team) and College Sports Communicators Academic All-America (second team) honors in 2021.  Seymour earned his degree in Sport Management.

Following a standout sophomore season, Brissette earned second team All-Little East Conference honors as a member of the Huskies' outfield. Playing in 34 games and starting 33, Brissette hit .331 (44-for-133) from his leadoff position in the lineup. Collecting six doubles and three home runs, Brissette picked up 19 RBI and scored 41 runs.  Defensively, Brissette had 58 putouts and five assists for a .984 fielding percentage.  Brissette is pursuing his degree in accounting.

Earning both ABCA and D3Baseball.Com All-Region honors as the Huskies centerfielder, Poole earned first team All-LEC honors.  Starting all 38 games in centerfield, Poole hit .335 (53-for-158) with nine doubles, three triples and five home runs, adding 33 runs and 33 RBI. A defensive standout, Poole was perfect from the field with 88 putouts and an assist.  He is working towards a degree in marketing.
