GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) of the 2023-2024 University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team have each earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. The 2023-24 Academic All-District At-Large Team (including the USM-sponsored sports of field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, golf, wrestling) is selected by College Sports Communicators, and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Both Craig and Frost earned 2024 National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-America honors at the conclusion of the season, and represented the University of Southern Maine at the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in March.
A two-time NWCA Scholar All-American, and two-time NCAA National Championship qualifier at 125 lbs, Craig is a 2023 NCAA Division III All-American. Repeating as an All-Region wrestler in 2024, Craig placed third overall at the northeast Regional Championship to earn his second bid to nationals, and finished his outstanding sophomore campaign with a record of 29-8. Earning second team All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) honors this season, Craig is a two-time All-NEWA selection, and was voted as the 2023 NEWA Rookie of the Year. In two seasons with the Huskies, Craig has a remarkable record of 55-12. A William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, Craig is working towards a degree in Cyber Security.
Becoming the eighth All-American in Huskies' wrestling history, Frost placed sixth overall at the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship in his second trip to nationals. Qualifying for the national championship tournament as a freshman in 2022, Frost booked his return trip this season placing third at 149 lbs at the 2024 NCAA Regional Championship. Now a three-time All-Region wrestler, Frost was named to the All-NEWA second team picking up his third all-conference recognition of his career (2023 honorable mention; 2022 second team). Finishing the 2023-2024 season with an outstanding record of 26-6, Frost is now 82-23 in his career. A William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete, Frost is a Health Science major
