https://theopenmat.com/) has released its most recent NCAA Division III team and individual national rankings as teams wrap up their first semester of competition. Huskies' wrestling has moved up one spot in the Team Tournament Rankings and are currently ranked 12
th nationally, while two of the Huskies' individual standouts senior
Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) remain among the best in the country in their respective weight classes.
Named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week twice so far this season, Frost is off to a remarkable start to his senior campaign at 16-0 and is currently ranked fourth, nationally. . Earning NCAA Division III All-American honors last season, Frost has earned a spot in the individual national rankings by several entities for a majority of the 2024-2025 season, and has been dominant on the mat. Fourteen of his 16 wins this season have been for extra points, including seven wins by fall, and four wins by technical fall. Closing in on 100 wins in his career, Frost currently has a career record of 98-12. A Health Sciences major, Frost has earned College Sports Communicator Academic All-District honors, and is a NWCA Scholar All-American.
A two-time NCAA National Qualifier and a 2023 NCAA Division III All-American, Craig has moved up to no. 2 nationally in the most recent Open Mat individual poll. Currently sitting at a record of 8-2, Craig bumped up a weight class to 133 lbs in 2024-2025 after competing at 125 lbs in his first two seasons. With key wins over No. 3 Peyton Ellis of Johnson and Wales, and No. 14 Andrew Marchese of Castleton, Craig has five extra-point wins, including three wins by technical fall. Craig's two losses are against No. 1 nationally-ranked wrestlers Chase Randall (Coast Guard, 133 lbs) and Joziah Fry (Johnson & Wales, 125 lbs). Currently 63-14 in his career, Craig is a Cyber Security major. He is a NWCA Scholar All-American and a College Sports Communicator Academic All-District selection.
Off for the semester break, Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday, January 4 (12:00 pm) at Maine Maritime Academy for a tri-match with Keystone College.
