Caroline Thompson (Victoria, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy) have been named captains of the 2024-25 University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team. MacLean and McKim were team captains last season as well.
A Health Sciences major, MacLean has played in 77 games over the course of her career. The defenseman had a career-best 11 points last season from four goals and seven assists and earned a Second Team All-New England Hockey Conference nod. She was named to the NEHC All-Academic Team for the first time last season and is also a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.
McKim, a 2023-24 American Hockey Coaches Associate (AHCA) All-American, is Southern Maine's all-time leader in shutouts and saves, and holds several program single-season records. The Health Sciences major's career accolades include three NEHC Goaltender of the Year Awards, three First Team All-NEHC selections and two New England Hockey Writers Association (NEHWA) New England All-Star selections. She is also a three-time NEHC All-Academic Team member, three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete and was named an AHCA / Krampade All-American Scholar in 2022-23. McKim has also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors twice.
Sytmiest, a forward majoring in Leadership, has played in 72 career games and has eight goals and 14 assists. She had a goal and five assists last season while playing in 26 games. A William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, Sytmiest was named to the 2022-23 NEHC All-Academic Team.
Thompson has recorded five goals and 11 assists over 53 career games. She was named to the 2022-23 NEHC All-Rookie Team after recording two goals and six assists in her first season. A Sociology major, Thompson was named to the NEHC All-Academic Team last year and is a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.
The Huskies are hosting Suffolk University on Friday at 4:00 pm and Keene State College on Saturday at 1:00 pm in exhibition games. The first game of the regular season is on Friday, November 1 at 4:00 pm at the University of New England. The team will then host Endicott College in the USM Ice Arena on Saturday, November 2 at 3:00 pm.
