GORHAM, Maine – Fifth-year senior
Cody Mathewson (Lebanon, Conn./ Lyman Memorial) has been chosen as the captain of the University of Southern Maine men's cross country team for the 2023 season. Mathewson served as team captain last season as well and was a captain of the Huskies' track and field team. He also was a co-captain of the 2021 cross country squad.
Mathewson is a two-time All-Little East Conference honoree with Second Team All-LEC honors in both 2021 and 2022. Last season he placed 14th at the conference championship and in 2021 he finished 12th. He also earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region honors in 2021 with a 34th place finish at the regional championship meet.
A Heath Sciences major, Matheson has made the LEC Academic Honor Roll five times and was named a William B Wise Scholar Athlete last fall.
Mathewson and the Huskies will compete next at the UMass Dartmouth Invite at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course on September 16.
