BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of Southern Maine golf team finished the 2023 Bowdoin College Invitational in 21st place out of a 22-team field. The Huskies had a team score of 334 (+46) to add to their first-round score of 331 (+43).
First place in the event went to Trinity College at +13 followed by New York University and Hamilton College in third. The medalist honor went to NYU's Joymouth Luangtana-anan (140, -4) who won by a stroke over Eastern Connecticut State University's Ashton Lewis (141, -3).
The top finisher for Southern Maine was sophomore
Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine/Freeport) who tied for 73rd (160, +16). Sharpe had a score of 81 in the second round. Junior
Owen Doyle (Gardiner, Maine), who shot an 81 in the first round, carded an 83 in the second round and finished tied for 88th. Freshman
Jackson Horne (Woodsville, N.H.) also had an 83 in the second round after being disqualified in round one.
Sophomore
Sam Farr (Gorham, Maine) and junior
Colin DeWitt (Newington, Conn.) each carded an 87 on the second day of competition. Farr tied for 93rd overall thanks to his 79 from the first round while DeWitt placed 103rd.
The next event for the Huskies will be the Mariner Invitational hosted by Maine Maritime Academy at Augusta Country Club. The event will tee off on Thursday morning at 10:00 am.
