Jake Peavey Earns College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors

GORHAM, Maine – Graduate student Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team has earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.  A two-time captain of the wrestling team, a 2023 NCAA Division III All-American and five-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American, Peavey has distinguished himself athletically and academically as a University of Southern Maine student-athlete throughout his career. 
 
Earning his undergraduate degree in Business Management in 2022, Peavey is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Leadership Studies and carries a remarkable 4.00 grade point average. A two-time Albert D. Bean Jr. Leadership Award winner, Peavey returned to the Huskies' wrestling program for a fifth year and turned in an outstanding performance.  A three-time All-Region wrestler in the 285-pound weight class, Peavey claimed the 2023 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship in his weight division with a perfect 4-0 mark, including a stunning 29-second pin in the championship match. With his regional title secured, Peavey earned his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship where he became the Huskies' sixth NCAA Division III All-American, placing sixth nationally.
 
A four-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete was dominant during the 2022-2023 season, Peavey posted a 27-4 record against his opponents, including 14 wins by fall. Capping his stellar career with the title of All-American, Peavey is a three-time All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) selection, earning first team honors in 2023.  Over his final two seasons, Peavey was an outstanding 52-9 and finished his career as a Husky with a record of 87-32.
 
As Academic All-District student-athlete Peavey is eligible for the Academic All-America ballot.  Voting for the Academic All-America program continues through June 1, and the Academic All-America team for men's at large student-athletes will be announced on June 21. Members of College Sports Communicators are eligible to vote. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling.
