GORHAM, Maine  –  Senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and juniors Janek Luksza (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) and Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
 
Each of the three members of the Huskies' 2023 baseball team are earning the honor after distinguishing themselves athletically and academically as student-athletes at the University of Southern Maine.  To be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and have been at their current institution for one full academic year.  Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as both an undergrad and graduate student-athlete. 
 
A senior outfielder for the Huskies, Searle-Belanger is a Chemistry major, and has previously been honored by USM Athletics as a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete. Playing in 39 games for the Huskies, Searle-Belanger hit a career best .304 for the Huskies (34-for-112) with seven doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs, while collecting 26 RBI.  Searle-Belanger was tied for the Huskies' lead in stolen bases with seven, and his 26 RBI were third on the team.  Playing left field, Searle-Belanger had 50 putouts and four assists. 
 
An infielder for the Huskies, Luksza is a Management major and a three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, and 2022 LEC All-Academic Team member. Playing in 30 games and shortstop and second base, Luksza hit .244 (22-for-90) with five doubles, a home run and 18 RBI.  With 56 putouts and 77 assists in 2023, Luksza was involved in 18 double plays for the Huskies.
 
Selected to the 2023 Little East Conference Third Team as a designated hitter, Seymour is a Sports Management major and a three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.  Previously named an Academic All-American (second team) selection in 2021, Seymour is a three-time All-LEC selection and a 2021 ABCA Division III All-American (second team).  In 2023, Seymour hit .250 (37-for-148) with 27 runs scored, and 32 RBI.  Among his 37 hits were 11 doubles and nine home runs.  Sitting at 29 career home runs at the conclusion of the 2023 season, Seymour is tied for second in Husky record books.  The record (32) is held by Pete Misiaszek (1991-1994). 
 
As Academic All-District student-athlete honorees, each of the three Huskies on the Academic All District team are eligible for the Academic All-America ballot.  Voting for the Academic All-America program continues through May 23, and the Academic All-America team for baseball will be announced on June 7. Members of College Sports Communicators are eligible to vote. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling).
