SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman
Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior
Nick Beebe (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter) each placed third in their respective weight classes to highlight a full day of competition at the 2023 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures tournament to Sunday afternoon at Western New England University.
The Huskies had 12 wrestlers competing in the event and finished eighth out of 14 teams, improving three spots from 2022. The Huskies scored 39.5 points for their eighth place finish.
Frost opened his tournament with a win by fall putting Western New England's Ayden Cheng to the mat in 4:15. Frost then earned a 6-4 decision over Springfield's Brayan Mendez Membreno 6-4 to earn a spot in the championship semifinal. Falling 9-6 by decision in the semifinal to Roger Williams' Matt Castillo, Frost bounced back for a decisive 8-1 win over Springfield's Ryan Kozdra to claim third.
