GORHAM, Maine   –  Sophomore Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) and junior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) each earned a second place finish at 133 and 149 pounds respectively to highlight a fourth place finish for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team at the 2023 Ted Reese Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex.
 
Freshmen James Blood (Sanford, Maine) and  Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY) also earned podium spots placing sixth and fifth at 125 and 141 lbs. for the Huskies. 
 
On the Mat:

• Ranked 12^th at 133 pounds in the latest Open Mat wrestling poll and listed as a contender by d3wrestle.com, Craig advance to the championship round of the 133 pound bracket after dominant back-to-back wins by technical fall in his first two bouts.  In the semifinals, Craig put together a strong 6-3 win by decision over Castleton's Andrew Marchese for a spot in the championship round. Facing off against seventh ranked Chase Randall of Coast Guard, Craig loss a close battle 8-4.
• Currently ranked seventh by d3wrestle.com at 149 pounds, Frost opened with a 4:56 win by fall over Castleton's Joseph Kennedy and then took a 17-2 technical fall win over Coast Guard's Nick Marck. In the semifinal, Frost had a dramatic come-from-behind 9-8 win over Castleton's Elijah Cyr to earn a spot in the final. Cyr is currently listed as an honorable mention candidate by d3wrestle. In the championship bout, Frost squared off against sixth-ranked Nathan Fitt of Coast Guard. Frost pushed Fitt to overtime, but fell 8-5 by decision.
• Moore went 4-2 at 141 pounds to earn his fifth place finish, marking the first top six finish of his intercollegiate wrestling career.  Blood's sixth place finish also marked his first podium spot.

 
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine travels to Vermont State Castleton University on Sunday, December 10 (1:00 pm) for a dual meet.  The Huskies are then off for the semester break before heading to Collegeville, Pa. for the Manganaro Duals on January 6 (10:00 am)
