CASTLETON, Vermont – Sophomore
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) earned a 3-2 win over VTSU-Castleton's Andrew Marchese at 133 pounds to score the Huskies lone points of the day as the fifth-ranked Castleton Spartans defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 42-3 in a dual meet Sunday afternoon at Glenbrook Gym.
Castleton is now 6-0 in dual meet action this season, recently coming off of a 51-0 win over American International College. The Huskies are 1-1 in dual meets in 2023.
On the Mat:
- Starting at 184, Castleton won its first four bouts of the contest to run up a 20-0 lead over the Huskies. Sampson Wilkins, ranked third nationally, earned a win by fall over AJ Robinson in 2:43 to start the match.
- Wrestling at 133, Craig picked up the 3-2 win over Marchese to stop the VTSU-Castleton run. Craig entered the bout ranked 12th nationally and third in region, while Marchese is presently ranked fifth.
- USM freshman Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY) put up a strong fight at the 141-pound bout against Castleton's James Rodriguez before ultimately dropping the match 10-2. Rodriguez is first in the region and fourth in the nation at 141 pounds.
